A Music Producer's Guide to Mindful Living

Joshua Pettinger

Josh Pettinger is an accomplished entrepreneur, producer, and music technology educator. Throughout his 15 year career in music production, Josh has worked with hundreds of recording artists including Lee Renaldo of Sonic Youth, James McNew of Yo La Tengo, and Acid Mothers Temple. He has also partnered with organizations such as Gathering of the Vibes, School of Rock, Finger Lakes Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology and TEDx Rochester.

In 2015 with the help of some friends, Josh launched Wicked Squid Studios in Rochester, NY. His aim since the company’s launch has been simple, to build a music production community centered around collaboration and education. The organization prides itself in providing a robust internship program open to anyone and everyone regardless of their educational background. Wicked Squid has been a home to upwards of fifty aspiring audio engineers and producers and is currently one of the only recording studios in Rochester, NY that offers internship opportunities.

In addition Josh works closely with the Rochester Public Library developing and teaching curriculum for the ImagineYOU Recording Program. The program focuses on both individualized skill development and team efficacy for inner city youth interested in careers in music and music production. Since Josh’s involvement with the recording program, student numbers have increased dramatically to include a diverse group of students ranging in age from 13 to 19. This year the program will be releasing its second full length student compilation album across all digital platforms.
